Our story
Bringing the hospitality and richness of east african cultur to Trondheim.
Welcome to Kilimanjaro, where every meal tells the story of Eritrea’s rich culture and tradition. Our passion is to bring the vibrant flavors, spices, and warmth of Eritrean/Ethiopian cuisine to your table, creating a dining experience that feels both comforting and unforgettable.
Eritrean/Ethiopian, food is about more than just eating—it’s about community, which is also true for many other east African countries where meals are shared from a common plate, In Eritrea we call this «MEADI» symbolizing togetherness, friendship, and hospitality. In «MEADI» people share not only food but also stories about their day, which makes it more than just a meal but a therapeutic experience, thus it´s not served until each family member is seated and ready to eat. At our restaurant, we invite you to experience that same spirit. Whether it’s the delicate layers of injera, the bold taste of our slow-cooked stews, or the aroma of traditional Eritrean coffee, each dish is prepared with care, authenticity, and love.
At the heart of our kitchen is Chef Henok Araya, whose love for cooking is deeply rooted in memory and tradition. Growing up in Eritrea, he spent countless hours watching and helping his family run their own restaurant. The warmth of the kitchen, the aroma of spices, and the joy of seeing people brought together by food left an impression that became his life’s passion. Today, he brings those cherished memories and skills into every dish, honoring his heritage while sharing it with our customers.
We believe food connects people, and our goal is to make you feel at home while exploring new flavors. Whether you’re discovering Eritrean cuisine for the first time or reliving the tastes of home, we are honored to share this journey with you.
Come as a guest, leave as family.
